During my Peruvian part of the South American trip I visited Puno, a city in southeastern Peru, located on the shore of Lake Titicaca. By volume of water, Lake Titicaca is the largest lake on the continent. It is often called the highest navigable lake in the world, with a surface elevation of 3,812 m (12,507 ft). Within four-days/three-nights stay in Puno I hiked Taquile Island, 3,950 m above sea level, and Sillustani, a pre-Incan cemetery on the shores of Lake Umayo (3,900 m). I have also visited the Uros floating islands man-made of totora reeds. This trip was such a unique travel experience! Here is a small portion of photos taken during the journey.

The “charms of Peru” are so adorable!
Thank you, Masha! I guess you are talking about the photo of a cria (a baby llama). I love that photo too :)
Diggin’ this collection – It’s like the sampler platter… a little bit of everything :-)

A “sampler platter” is a good comparison, Maria. Like it :)
Wow, everything is so colorful indeed.
Is there a reason why the people dress in such bright colors?
The landscapes are breathtaking!
The Peruvian landscapes are breathtaking, Jasmine! I am going to publish a photo post with my panorama shots… you should see those!
Regarding bright colors. Those are just colors of traditional Peruvian clothing. They might be different according to village traditions. Not sure about the origin… The Uros are pre-Incan people. By the way, skirts may be worn one over the other and a woman may wear a dozen skirts at a time. Pretty neat, huh!?
Amazing snapshots mate! So vivid and colorful. Those photos just woke me up :). By the way, Coca-Cola is everywhere I see :)

Thanks, Agness! I love Coca-Cola :) One of its old slogans proves your words- “Around the corner from anywhere” :)

I love the colors of the buildings! And the fuzzy alpacas. (Unless they’re llamas. I like both, but I can never tell them apart.)

Yes, Jess, “Is it alpaca or llama?” question is always challenging one :) I know llamas are bigger than alpacas. An adult llama can weigh 300-400 pounds and be around 6 feet tall. Alpacas are 100-200 pounds and up to 4 feet tall. The mom on the pic above is about 5 feet tall. So I’ve assumed it is a llama-family. However, it might be a giant alpaca :)
Now, this is somewhere I have to get to, Alex. A beautiful image series!

Yes, Andrew, you should. I would recommend 4-5 days for exploration of Puno and Lake Titicaca. Don’t forget about the high-altitude.
