I visited Santiago, formally Santiago de Chile, during my recent trip to South America. A friend photographer Andrew (AndrewGraemeGould.com) was kind to host me for two nights and show the city’s photography “hot spots”. The experience was amazing! Santiago is the “Street Photographer’s Paradise”. Such beautiful and photocamera-friendly people live there. Nobody has ever complained about taking his/her photos. Even more, people encouraged me taking their photos by smiling, waiving, and posing for a shot. I had so much joy memographing the Santiago People! I even broke one of my street photography rules, took photos of police officers (what I have never done before on travel).
I was lucky to visit Santiago during Palm Sunday. The Sunday before Easter commemorates Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem. That’s probably why my Nona Hora project in Santiago was blessed. Palm Sunday is marked by distribution of palm leaves to worshippers. So Plaza de Armas, where the Metropolitan Cathedral of Santiago is located, was in full action. I have also visited the second highest point in the city San Cristobal Hill, charming Barrio Paris Londres neighborhood, Santiago’s bohemian quarter Barrio Bellavista, lovely peaceful Sculpture Park, walked by La Moneda Palace (the one which was bombed during a coup led by Pinochet) and other streets and squares I can’t remember the names… Thank you, Andrew!

A great series, Alex. It was also great to have that day together here in Santiago. I’ve just posted my version of three of these shot, and have linked them back to this post. Thanks for the mention you’ve already given me here.

Thank you, Andrew! It was a great day! I have Santiago street photography pics for two more posts… and have architectural and cityscape photos for other two posts. Santiago rocks! :) I’ll publish the next post in a couple of days. Stay tuned.

We’ll have to do it again in Atlanta, one of these days! I will certainly be back for every post of yours.
I will have to respond to your next post on Santiago with some others of mine from that day. I remember well the girl in white (above here) who danced Peruvian style.
Your close up of the girl with the Palm Sunday palms at her feet is very well caught. It’s reminded me of one of my own in the central Plaza de Armas, where you took that. The following three scenes all ring a bell, too.

Sure! Atlanta is waiting for you, Andrew! :) Unfortunately, it doesn’t have such a street life Santiago has. But, we will find what to photograph ;)
Can’t wait to see your “response-posts”.
I was on Andrew’s site and saw the link to your site. As I was in Santiago a few years ago I can relate to some of the photographs. I love what you’ve captured and such a contrast with Grahams more exuberant colour photos.
