I visited Santiago, formally Santiago de Chile, during my recent trip to South America. A friend photographer Andrew (AndrewGraemeGould.com) was kind to host me for two nights and show the city’s photography “hot spots”. The experience was amazing! Santiago is the “Street Photographer’s Paradise”. Such beautiful and photocamera-friendly people live there. Nobody has ever complained about taking his/her photos. Even more, people encouraged me taking their photos by smiling, waiving, and posing for a shot. I had so much joy memographing the Santiago People! I even broke one of my street photography rules, took photos of police officers (what I have never done before on travel).
I was lucky to visit Santiago during Palm Sunday. The Sunday before Easter commemorates Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem. That’s probably why my Nona Hora project in Santiago was blessed. Palm Sunday is marked by distribution of palm leaves to worshippers. So Plaza de Armas, where the Metropolitan Cathedral of Santiago is located, was in full action. I have also visited the second highest point in the city San Cristobal Hill, charming Barrio Paris Londres neighborhood, Santiago’s bohemian quarter Barrio Bellavista, lovely peaceful Sculpture Park, walked by La Moneda Palace (the one which was bombed during a coup led by Pinochet) and other streets and squares I can’t remember the names… Thank you, Andrew!
