She arrived on November 7th 2012, a beautiful petite girl with a red “dot-birthmark” on her face, my new compact camera Leica DLUX 6. It was the Day when my travel photography had taken a new course. Mentally, switching travel photo equipment from Nikon pro gear to a compact camera wasn’t easy for me. However, today I don’t regret. Leica’s benefits are amazing. It has fulfilled my expectations as a photography tool and enhanced my street photography in such a joyful way.

I planned to post this review a long time ago. My new little friend has already accompanied me to Easter Island, Peru, Chile, Belarus, Czech Republic, New York City and many places around Georgia, USA. But, I have stayed silent for all this time… Well, today is the day :) Here are some of the key features of my new photo camera, Leica D-Lux 6:

  • Newly designed lens with an aperture range of f/1.4-2.3 from an equivalent focal range of 24-90mm
  • CMOS sensor (versus a CCD in the D-Lux 5) for better high ISO performance
  • High resolution, 920,000 pixel 3-inch LCD screen (compared to 460,000 pixels on D-lux 5)
  • Aperture ring around the lens for quick, intuitive adjustment
  • Stereo microphone with full 1080p video recording
  • 3-stop neutral density filter built in (for shooting in bright light at f/1.4)
  • Built in spirit level to assure perfect composition
  • Faster burst shooting, up to 11 frames per second
  • Improved build quality and streamlined design
  • Improved operational speed and focusing
