Even though there are new tram tracks in Atlanta (the “Downtown Loop”), I really miss the look of classic rail vehicles and sound of tramways. While in Lisbon, I tried not to miss any opportunity to photo-hunt beautiful Lisbon Trams [smile].

***Just FYI,

  • The first tramway in Lisbon entered service 145 years ago (on 17 November 1873), as a horsecar line.
  • On 30 August 1901, Lisbon’s first electric tramway commenced operations. Within a year, all of the city’s tramways had been converted to electric traction.
  • In 1959, the network of lines reached its greatest extent of total 27 tram lines in Lisbon, all of them running on 900 mm (2 ft 11 7⁄16 in) narrow gauge tram lines. It presently comprises six urban lines.
