It is hard to imagine Hanoi Old Quarter without street peddlers. A peddler, in British English a pedlar, also known as a canvasser, cheapjack, monger, higler or solicitor, is a travelling vendor of goods. Today’s post is dedicated to all charming and hardworking Vietnamese girls and women roaming the streets of Hanoi.
By the way, I haven’t seen a male peddler in Hanoi. Have you?

Ooo gorgeous photos! I loved Hanoi when we visited in 2007 (can’t believe it’s this long already!) and you’re right. The street vendors are such a big part of this town!

Thanks, Simone! I wish I visited Vietnam in 2007… That time the junks in Halong Bay were not painted in white color.

Ah the street vendors of SE Asia. I remember them well. I’m drawn to the overhead shot of the vegetable seller. wow!

Thanks, Maria! It took me about an hour to get that photo :) I was photo-hunting from a balcony of my hotel for someone wearing a Coolie Hat. But, luck wasn’t on my side that day. Imagine a Coolie Hat on that seller ;)

You got a couple of really good poses in there.
Those efficient Vietnamese hats where I am in the South American desert would work out well.

Thanks, Mike! Definitely, the cooling “device” is unique and would work in any place ;) Hope, it is not too hot in desert.

Hmmm..Alex. you just provoked my thought. I’m pretty sure I saw a male peddler before. I scanned my photos and yes there was a male. It was actually the first photo of one of my post. http://www.travelingsolemates.com/category/vietnam/hanoi/
But yes, most of them are women. I think you charmed these women, Alex:) Their smiles for the camera look smitten and really lovely! Seriously, your shots of these “canvasser, cheapjack, monger, higler or solicitor” are really beautiful and you captured the spirit of the street of Hanoi really well.

Marisol, I have to say that it is really hard to tell if there is a female or male peddler on your photo LOL
Thanks so much for your comment!

Great photos. I am always afraid to take pictures of locals when traveling. Do you ask first? Or do you just snap away?

Thanks, Angela! I don’t ask for permission when take a candid street photo, but, ask when take a street portrait. Here is the link to my other post which will answer with better details – http://memographer.com/2013/09/street-portraits-of-peru-le-puedo-tomar-una-foto/

Amazing pictures! I love the first shot (such a happy and warm picture) and the fifth picture (the angle is just great and so are the colors). Well done, Alex :)
