Dedicated to Helen’s 100th Anniversary.
Helen, Georgia is a village-replica of a Bavarian alpine town located in the Northeast Georgia. The town’s population is around 500 people. Nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains (Appalachians) on the Chattahoochee River, it is a very popular tourist destination for mountain camping, hiking, tubing, fishing, bird watching, and more. There is also a good number of motels, shops, restaurants, bakeries, and handicraft markets in town. Helen offers something for every member of the family. The list of festivals and special events that take place in Helen during the year include a Hot Air Balloon Race, Winefest, Volksmarch, Alpenfest, Oktoberfest and Christmas parades, Fourth of July fireworks, and Bavarian Nights of Summer. From mid-September through October, Helen hosts the longest Oktoberfest in the South.
I’ve recently visited Helen, Georgia looking for some Oktoberfest activities and hiking to Anna Ruby Falls outside of town. The weather was perfect for hiking and German beer and schnitzel were exceptional :)

Wow! Memo, that’s incredible – so quaint and what a cool location – I grew up not too far from there and had no idea of this Oktoberfest event. Thanks!

I don’t know, but to me this doesn’t look very German at all – and I AM German and I AM from Bavaria, so I should know! ;)
But I’m used to it. It’s the same here in Japan. The image of Germany is always far away from the truth.
The “Oktoberfest” they celebrate here in Japan has nothing to do with the “real thing”.
Of course, it doesn’t look German, Jasmine. It’s just another attraction for tourists :) Thanks for stopping by!

Amazing pictures. The houses seem to be out of a story book! I didn’t know places like this still existed.

A festival is always nice, Alex. And that looks like Santa on a day off!
