While I was roaming the streets of Lima, Peru earlier this year, I met an artist who was drawing a caricature of a girl. I took a few shots over his shoulder and thought it would be interesting to take photos the other direction, because passers were constantly stopping by to watch over the artist’s shoulder. That’s how my ‘Stranger Portraits: Behind the Artist’s Shoulder’ project was born. I had asked the artist to draw a souvenir caricature of me holding a photo camera… apparently, the camera was taking souvenir pictures :)

Memo that’s a fantastic idea! I love the little girl who looks so critical. I can hear her thinking, “That doesn’t look like him at all!” or… “Art? They call that art? Ugh!” *laugh*

Thanks, Maria! Not sure what the little girl was thinking… But, I can confirm “That doesn’t look like me at all!” :)

The looks on the faces of some of the passers by are really interesting. I also like how he drew you… and your camera!
Thanks, Andrew! The faces are priceless :)
Fortunately, the camera came out much better than me ;)
