I visited Lima, Peru three times during my first trip to South America. Twice I had to wait for connection flights in Jorge Chávez International Airport. The third time, on my way home to Atlanta, I stayed in Lima for two days and was able to explore it a little bit. Since the Limans were celebrating the last days of Christ’s life- the end of Holy Week, I spent some quality photography time on the streets.
Interesting facts about Lima, Peru:
- Lima was founded by Spanish conquistador Francisco Pizarro on January 18, 1535, as La Ciudad de los Reyes, or “The City of Kings” in English
- Lima is the capital and the largest city of Peru
- The population of Lima is about 10 million
- Every third Peruvian lives in Lima
- It is the fourth biggest city in South America after São Paulo (Brazil), Buenos Aires (Argentina) and Rio de Janeiro (Brazil)
- The urban area of Lima covers about 800 km2, largely the size of Belgium and Holland together
- Lima is the second biggest desert town in the world, after Cairo, Egypt

Yes, Annette, any town in South America worth a visit, especially a capital. As I always say, there is always a Next Time :) Thanks for stopping by!
Guy with the lama is my favorite. His expression coupled with the timing of the lama looking his way = PRICELESS!
Works in color as well as black and white but of course, with B/W the expression hit me first and foremost.
You take such beautiful shots.

Thanks, Maria! The photo of Guy and Lama is one of my favorites too. However, it wasn’t that difficult to take (timing wise)… the most difficult shots in this post are:
1. The Sign
2. Fernando Diaz will be soo-o late today
3. A phone, a girl, and a falling coin
4. Hello, Skateboarder!
