My Inca Trail tour guide has told me a story about a secret chamber full of gold and silver treasures discovered under one of the houses at Machu Picchu’s urban site. He said that the chamber has not been opened yet and took me there for a “photo-check-mark” (see below). I had a funny feeling standing above buried Incas treasures having a photo camera in my hands instead of a shovel…
When I got home I searched for more info and found that a tour guide was right.
A team of French, Peruvian and Spanish researchers have located a secret entrance to a chamber hidden within the depths of the mysterious site. The electromagnetic survey confirmed the presence of several underground rooms. Just behind the entrance, a staircase was also discovered. The two main paths seem to lead to specific chambers, including to the main squared one. The Molecular Frequencies Discriminator allowed the researches to highlight the presence of important archaeological material, including deposits of metal and a large quantity of gold and silver! One year ago (on May 22, 2012) the researchers officially submitted a request for authorization to the Peruvian authorities which would allow them to proceed with the opening of the burial chambers…

Arrows, key, lock… you got it all, there can be no denying! Now, when I go… won’t worry about getting lost looking for the secret chamber. Love it!

Wow! Who knew! They didn’t mention this when I was there. What a cool fact. I kind of wish I’d dug around a bit now, although I’d already been shouted at for eating and for taking ‘jumping shots’ so perhaps the third strike would have got be deported!

Yes, I am looking forward to seeing the story start to unfold. However, I think the Peruvian authorities will not proceed with the opening of the chambers anytime soon. It ‘s a great “candy” for attracting tourists.

Isn’t it great that there are still mysteries waiting to be discovered this late in the game! I’m not sure the Peruvian authorities should open it up. Buried means protected.

07/06/2013 – A NEW PROJECT : MACHU PICCHU 2013
On June 07th, 2013, Thierry Jamin, President of the Institute Inkari – Cusco, presented officially to the Ministry of Culture a new research project aiming at the opening of the famous “secret door” of the Building 02, Sector II, Sub-Sector E, Unity 03, of the Urban Sector of Machu Picchu, and the exhumation of a likely high-ranking funeral material.
Completely repeated, the project seems more technical and complete in its new formula than in the previous one.
All the team of Inkari wishes to make understand to the Peruvian authorities its burning desire to work hand in hand with them and its determination absolved to make succeed this research project until its term.
A close collaboration between the team of the Inkari Institute of Cusco and the professionals of the Ministry of Culture would indeed be the most just and the most reasonable from the point of view of the professional ethics.
We hope that it will be possible, in the next few weeks, to find an agreement, an honorable exit for all and that we can so, in a few months, give to the National Cultural Heritage and to the World Heritage of the Humanity this big historic treasure.
